The shorts that spent all year betting against space just got their first real scare.

When SpaceX (SPCX) went public, it exposed where Wall Street’s bearish money was hiding.

Short sellers had piled into the pre-revenue space names, the ones burning cash and chasing milestones. Then SpaceX unlocked 911 million shares on Thursday afternoon, the crash everyone braced for never came, and the stock rose 6% that day, then kept climbing into double digits on Friday.

That’s a short squeeze. When a name is heavily shorted and the bad news never lands, the sellers get forced to buy it back, and their own buying is the fuel.

But the squeeze pressure isn’t spread evenly across the sector. It sits in the names that are still genuinely shorted, and those are the ones I care about.

AST SpaceMobile (ASTS) is the clearest one, with close to 20% of its float sold short. Intuitive Machines (LUNR) is right there with it, another heavily shorted name the bears have leaned on all year. Both are the kind of setup where one good catalyst forces a stampede for the exit.

One caution that matters this week. ASTS and Rocket Lab (RKLB) both report earnings today, so those are event trades, not clean setups.

I never chase a squeeze straight into a print. I wait for the dust to settle and let the chart tell me the move is real.
